Welcome to my travel blog! I always thought that such things were a bit self indulgent, but after the encouragement of a number of you, I decided to start a little travel diary detailing this special time in my life. You asked for it!
I started the first day of my sabbatical at RFK Stadium with some friends. The cherry blossoms are blooming in Washington and Baseball is back! Even though the Washington Nationals are considered by many analysts to be the worst team in the Major Leagues, the stadium was packed with eager fans delighted to have their game back again after a long, cold winter. The usual ceremony preceeded the game - the Marine Band, flag waving, patriotic music, weapons of war flying overhead, the mayor throwing out the first pitch - and it was a perfect day weather wise (78 degrees and a breeze). The Nationals did not disappoint, and dropped their opener to the Florida Marlins 9-2. Hey, if you are going to be the worst team in baseball, own it!
Here are the Westside Boyz and me at the game - what a demographic! Trivia question: Which one of these guys is Irish? A. All three, but some are more Irish than others....

Love the Nats garb! You are truly a fan!
(I bet the guy with the binoculars is the true Irishman.)
