Opening Day - America's Pastime - Washington, DC

Welcome to my travel blog! I always thought that such things were a bit self indulgent, but after the encouragement of a number of you, I decided to start a little travel diary detailing this special time in my life. You asked for it!

I started the first day of my sabbatical at RFK Stadium with some friends. The cherry blossoms are blooming in Washington and Baseball is back! Even though the Washington Nationals are considered by many analysts to be the worst team in the Major Leagues, the stadium was packed with eager fans delighted to have their game back again after a long, cold winter. The usual ceremony preceeded the game - the Marine Band, flag waving, patriotic music, weapons of war flying overhead, the mayor throwing out the first pitch - and it was a perfect day weather wise (78 degrees and a breeze). The Nationals did not disappoint, and dropped their opener to the Florida Marlins 9-2. Hey, if you are going to be the worst team in baseball, own it!

Here are the Westside Boyz and me at the game - what a demographic! Trivia question: Which one of these guys is Irish? A. All three, but some are more Irish than others....

Love the Nats garb! You are truly a fan!
(I bet the guy with the binoculars is the true Irishman.)

Bro - I signed up for your site so I could live your adventure vicariously. The girls and were in Houston 2 weeks ago for a party at Minute Maid park. We had to buy jerseys of our local team to wear to the party. We will e-mail you pictures.

Now that we have jerseys we felt compeled to go to a Rockies Game (The only team worse than the Nationals). I think before the game on April 22nd your neices Hayden and Taylor need you to school them on the fascination of America with baseball as their father is frankly quite baseball illiterate.

Have a great trip . . . we will be following. Are you going to bring your laptop?

FYI - Kenny Abrams has great season tickets to the Red Sox if you are ever in Boston.

See you Bro.
